Check Module
The Check module is a very powerful part of Laminate Tools,
offering quick and easy post-processing of FEA results, focusing on composite
material aspects. It is used to:
- Read Nastran-format results (*.op2,
*.f06 files) for post-processing.
-
Read Ansys-format results (*.rst files)
for post-processing.
-
Read Abaqus-format results (*.odb files)
for post-processing.
- Plot stresses per layer per loadcase, or group together
layers and/or loadcases and process for worst values (enveloping).
- Plot native Nastran failure index results, similarly to above,
per layer or layer interface.
- Create Failure Indices, Margins of Safety or Reserve
Factors based on the imported FEA stresses, using a number of failure theories (including
Custom user-defined equations), while the calculation can be based on either
stress or strain.
- Apply small corrections to the overall
layup configuration and interactively display the redistributed
layer stresses and failure calculations (approximate), without repeating the FEA solution.
- Plot stresses, failure indices, etc, through the element
thickness layer-by-layer, clearly highlighting the important stress
components and troublespots.
-
Plot any results on the original global plies,
this making sense of load paths and correctly interpreting optimisation
strategies.
- Export laminate and load information per element to LAP,
for additional checks and swift experimentation for improving the stacking
sequence before embarking on a fresh FE analysis.
-
Calculate interactively, and plot strains
similarly to above.
-
Puck and LaRC02/05 failure theories added to
interactive calculations.

In brief, the Check
module enables designers to instantly comprehend the effects of any
loadcase (or of multiple loadcases) on the laminated composite structure.
The investigation can quickly narrow down to troublespots, identify the
problem, quickly assess ways to correct it, and apply corrective action.
Similarly, overly
conservative features can also be quickly identified and optimisation
measures applied. The Check module saves team time and helps avoid design
errors.
